Welcome to The Himalayan
Founded by a group of dedicated adventurers and environmentalists.
The Himalayan was founded in 2017 by a group of dedicated adventurers and environmentalists who recognized the unique beauty and fragility of the Himalayan region. (Including Everesters like Debraj Dutta
and Chetna Sahoo, and also renowned mountaineering veteran Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Apurba Kumar Bhattacharyya ( An ex Principal of the famous mountaineering training Institute - Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi). Our organization has grown into a thriving collective of mountain enthusiasts, each committed to responsible exploration, environmental stewardship, and cultural exchange. We believe in the power of adventure to transform lives and in the importance of preserving the Himalayas for future generations.
Mission

Vision
We envision a future where the Himalayan region is explored with reverence, its ecosystems are protected, and its communities are empowered and celebrated.
Leadership
Our management committee is composed of experienced mountaineers, environmentalists, and community leaders, all dedicated to upholding the values.
Conservation and Community Projects
The Himalayan is deeply committed to protecting the fragile ecosystems of the Himalayas. Our conservation projects include tree plantation drives, such as those conducted in memory of Meher H. Mehta, as well as regular clean-up campaigns on trekking routes and at base camps. We collaborate with local communities and organizations to promote sustainable tourism and environmental awareness. A computer center at the Lambadara Busty, dist. Darjeeling, West Bengal, has been established to support the Sherpa community there and their children. The Computer Centre is equipped with computer Desktops, Laptop and CPUs along with printer and copier. In the near future , the Centre would also be supported by a projector & audio-visual equipment. for cultural webinars and online tutorials.
Community & Outreach
Youth Engagement
The Himalayan is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of adventurers. Our youth programs include adventure camps, mentorship opportunities, and educational workshops tailored to young explorers. We believe in empowering youth with the skills, confidence, and environmental awareness needed to become responsible leaders.
Social Impact
Our outreach extends beyond adventure. We organize community service projects, such as supporting underprivileged children through educational initiatives and adventure-based learning experiences. We also partner with local organizations to address pressing social and environmental issues in the Himalayan region.
Associates
Our website features a growing collection of testimonials, adventure diaries, and personal reflections from our members. These stories celebrate the spirit of exploration, the bonds forged in the mountains, and the transformative power of the Himalayan experience.
For the Himalayan website, we are looking for:
- Photo-essays: We understand that in today’s fast life many of us do not have time to pen our thoughts. Hence, we call for photo-essays. These would basically be photographs that you have clicked during your travels with a line or two about each photograph. However, we would encourage you to attach an introductory note about the trip so that the report becomes self – explanatory for someone wanting to go on the trip. It may include useful trail tips with maps and any contacts that you wish to share without making it an advertisement. Initially we are planning for 10-15 photo sets for each trip.
- Travelogues: For those of you who are more comfortable with the pen, we encourage you to share detailed reports with your personal experiences about the Himalayas along-with supporting photographs, trail tips, maps etc. as deemed fit.
Preferred Languages: English & Bengali. Email entries to: thehimalayan2017@gmail.com
